Volvo Trucks increases its presence at Harrison’s Transport with ten new FH Aeros

Harrison's Transport has taken delivery of ten new Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor units, specified with Globetrotter XL cabs and I-Park Cool to maximise driver comfort. The new arrivals replace trucks from a rival manufacturer in the Preston-based business' immaculate fleet. Used for temperature-controlled deliveries across the UK, the FH Aeros have made a solid early impression with fuel efficiency expected to improve even further as they bed in.

Lee Harrison, Managing Director at Harrison's Transport, says: "We had a demonstrator in for a few weeks, and the feedback was really positive in terms of fuel performance and the feel of the drive. Volvo then came back with a very competitive offer and we didn't hesitate. "The Aeros are settling in well, we're already getting around 11 mpg from them which we only expect to get better the longer they run."

Supplied by Neil Crook, Customer Solutions Manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials, the new Volvo FH Aeros are equipped with Euro D13TC Step E 460 hp engines, which leverage turbo compound technology to deliver an additional 300 Nm of torque. This extends the fuel economy potential by introducing an extra turbine after the turbocharger to reuse excess fuel from the exhausts, which is then converted to torque directly on the crankshaft. The innovative engines are driven via Volvo's popular 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox technology, with optimised software for long haul operations.

This includes I-See predictive cruise control - which allows the driver to tackle hills and gradients in a higher gear, saving fuel without losing speed. Harrison's Transport has opted for Volvo's Camera Monitoring System (CMS), which replaces the traditional wing mirrors. Introduced with the launch of the FH Aero last year, the CMS improves aerodynamics and saves energy.

The cameras open up a driver's visual field in both good and challenging conditions, whilst an in-built surveillance mode lets the driver see outside the truck even when the curtains are drawn, for maximum protection and security. The smart exterior of the new FH Aeros sport the business' cobalt blue and red livery, complemented by Kelsa lightbars, air horns and Dura-Bright Alloys. Inside the Globetrotter XL cabs, the focus has been to ensure the firm's team of hard-working drivers - who work on a four-day tramping shift rotation - are as comfortable as possible.

This includes leather interior, microwave oven, fridge and I-Park Cool - Volvo's intelligent overnight air conditioning system which helps keep the cab at a perfect temperature overnight, whatever the weather. "Our drivers are out for three nights in a row, so comfort is always at the front and centre of the specification for new trucks," adds Harrison. "Each truck has two drivers, needless to say those who have been given these new Aeros are very happy indeed." Transporting chilled goods including fresh milk and salads to supermarkets across the country, the new additions are expected to clock up 180,000 km each year.

They are backed by five-year Volvo Gold contracts, which includes preventive maintenance and repairs to guarantee Harrison's Transport the most comprehensive and personal service.
