Volvo FH Aeros join Harrison’s fleet in driver-first upgrade

Harrison's Transport has added 10 brand-new Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor units to its fleet, replacing trucks from another manufacturer. Each unit features a Globetrotter XL cab and Volvo's I-Park Cool overnight air con system -- all part of a major investment to boost driver comfort and fuel economy. The Preston-based firm runs a tight ship, delivering chilled goods like milk and salads to supermarkets nationwide.
The new FH Aeros have already impressed on the road and in the cab. "We had a demonstrator in for a few weeks, and the feedback was really positive in terms of fuel performance and the feel of the drive," said Lee Harrison, managing director at Harrison's. "Volvo then came back with a very competitive offer and we didn't hesitate. The Aeros are settling in well - we're already getting around 11 mpg from them, which we only expect to get better the longer they run."
Supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials, Harrison's FH Aeros come with Volvo's Euro D13TC Step E 460 bhp engine, fitted with turbo compound tech that reuses exhaust energy to add 300 Nm of torque. This helps push fuel efficiency even further over the 180,000 km each truck is expected to cover annually.
Gear shifts are handled by Volvo's I-Shift 12-speed auto 'box with I-See predictive cruise, helping the Aeros tackle hills more efficiently without dropping pace. The Camera Monitoring System (CMS), replacing standard mirrors, improves aerodynamics and widens visibility, and includes a night mode for extra security when parked up. Driver comfort hasn't been overlooked either. Each cab is kitted out with leather trim, a fridge, microwave and Volvo's I-Park Cool climate control.
With drivers out on four-day tramping shifts, Harrison have made comfort a top priority.
"Our drivers are out for three nights in a row, so comfort is always at the front and centre of the specification for new trucks," Harrison added. "Each truck has two drivers - needless to say, those who have been given these new Aeros are very happy indeed."
