Sunswap Endurance selected by Euser for zero-emission cold chain operations
Sunswap Endurance has been selected by Dutch logistics operator Royal Euser to support zero-emission cold chain transport across the Netherlands. The move sees Euser adopt electric refrigeration units alongside its existing fleet, removing diesel from trailer-mounted cooling systems. Operating more than 500 trucks, Euser delivers chilled and frozen goods daily across urban and regional routes.
These include city centres, residential streets and distribution hubs. The introduction of Sunswap Endurance targets both emissions and operational improvements. Bas Euser, General Director, said: "We weren't just asking about emissions or cost.
"We were asking what makes the working day better for the people in it, and what it means for the customers and communities we serve."
Moving beyond diesel refrigeration
Traditional diesel-powered refrigeration units continue to operate independently of the main vehicle engine. This creates additional emissions and noise, particularly in urban environments. Research from TNO found refrigeration units can account for around one third of total NOx emissions during city deliveries.
Sunswap Endurance replaces this with a fully electric system. The unit is designed from the ground up as an integrated platform combining hardware, software and service. The system produces zero tailpipe emissions and meets PIEK noise standards.
This supports night-time and city-centre deliveries where restrictions apply.
Solar support and extended runtime
Sunswap Endurance uses trailer-mounted solar panels to extend operating time and reduce reliance on grid charging. In European conditions, the system can run for up to 24 hours in frozen operation on a single charge. In chilled applications, runtime can extend up to two months.
This makes the system suitable for intensive multi-drop operations without frequent recharging. Mike Lowe, CEO of Sunswap, said: "Euser runs serious cold chain operations across the Netherlands. "They wanted to know Endurance performs, that it's supported, and that it offers an easier and better experience for the people using it every day."
Operational and cost benefits
Removing diesel refrigeration reduces emissions in areas where vehicles spend the most time.
This includes loading bays, residential streets and urban delivery zones. Noise reduction also improves working conditions for drivers and depot teams. Operators using Sunswap Endurance have reported up to 81% reduction in refrigeration operating costs compared to diesel systems.
The unit also provides continuous performance data, giving fleet operators full visibility of usage and efficiency.
Supporting large-scale logistics operations
Founded in 1919, Royal Euser is one of the Netherlands' largest logistics providers. The company operates across food retail, foodservice, fresh produce and pharmaceutical distribution. The adoption of Sunswap Endurance reflects a wider shift towards full-system decarbonisation across cold chain logistics.
