Midlands Truck & Van leads the way as UK’s first 100% eReady Mercedes-Benz dealership
Midlands Truck & Van has become the first Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealership in the UK to achieve full eReady status, marking a significant step in the transition towards electric heavy goods vehicles. Speaking in The Trucking Interview, Managing Director Michael Carolan highlighted the dealership's transformation and the investment required to support electric trucks across its network. Two key sites -- Birmingham and Dunstable -- are now fully equipped to handle major repairs and servicing of electric trucks, with additional locations providing diagnostics and maintenance support.
Carolan, who began his career as an apprentice technician in 1999, said the move reflects both industry direction and customer demand, with operators increasingly focused on reducing emissions and meeting sustainability targets. Martin Kelly, eConsultant at Midlands Truck & Van, emphasised that driver acceptance of electric trucks is improving rapidly. "There's often hesitation at first, but within hours drivers are won over by the smoothness, power and quietness," he said. The interview also highlighted the growing capability of electric trucks such as the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, offering ranges of around 500km and fast-charging potential using high-capacity infrastructure.
However, infrastructure remains the key barrier. The dealership pointed to charging availability and electricity costs as the biggest factors influencing fleet adoption, despite total cost of ownership increasingly matching diesel in some use cases. With investment in training, apprenticeships and facilities ongoing, Midlands Truck & Van is positioning itself at the forefront of the UK's electric trucking transition.
