M6 traffic LIVE as motorway at standstill due to police incident
The M6 motorway is shut on Saturday morning due to an ongoing ' police incident[1] '. The northbound carriageway has been closed between J28 for Leyland and J30 for Bamber Bridge. The closure was first reported at 7.06am today (March 7).
Police have advised that drivers find alternative routes.

Northbound traffic is being diverted via the solid square diversion symbol on road signs:
- Exit the M6 at J28
- At M6 J28 / B5256 junction, turn right and follow the B5256 eastbound (Leyland Way) for 0.3 miles.
- At the B5256 / A49 junction, turn left and follow the A49 northbound (Wigan Road) for 1.7 miles.
- At the A49 / A6 junction, turn right and follow the A6 eastbound (Lostock Lane) for 0.3 miles.
- At the A6 / M6 Junction 29 roundabout, take the first exit and follow the M65 westbound for 0.4 miles.

Full police statement
Preston Police confirmed the incident, saying: "The M6 is currently closed northbound between junction 28 (Charnock Richard) and junction 30 (Bamber Bridge) due to an ongoing police incident. "We don't anticipate that the closure will be in place for a significant period of time. However, we would encourage motorists to find alternative travel routes if they can do so.
"We know that this closure will cause some disruption but it is absolutely necessary, and we are working as quickly as we can to get the carriageway fully re-open. We will update you as soon as it is re-open."
