HARSH tractor kits power AWSM Farming’s versatile tanker fleet

HARSH tractor kits are supporting AWSM Farming Ltd's latest fleet additions, giving the operator flexibility across multiple trailer types. The Yorkshire-based business has added four new Scania R560 6x2 tractor units, each equipped with HARSH tractor kits. The systems allow seamless switching between tanker, tipper and walking floor operations.

AWSM Farming runs a 20-strong fleet focused on specialist agricultural and waste transport work. The ability to adapt quickly between applications remains central to its operation. Transport Manager Andrew Gibson said: "The HARSH kits just make everything so easy.

We've got a custom-built system that can switch between vacuum tanks, slurry tanks, tipper trailers and walking floors. "Over the years, the HARSH equipment has proven to be reliable, practical and inherently safe to operate." The HARSH tractor kits play a key role in supporting continuous hydraulic demand.

This is especially important for tanker work, where equipment often runs for extended periods.

Designed for demanding tanker work

Most of AWSM's workload involves liquid and semi-liquid materials. These include food waste, animal feed by-products and slurry. The HARSH tractor kits must deliver consistent power during long discharge cycles.

In some cases, systems operate continuously for up to 30 minutes. This steady output is also required during land spreading operations. Reliability is critical, as any interruption affects productivity on-site.

AWSM's tanker fleet includes vacuum tankers and vogelsang lobe pump units. The latest additions also feature D-Tec tri-axle trailers with steering on both front and rear axles. These trailers improve access to tight sites and loading points.

According to Gibson, this gives AWSM an advantage in difficult locations. "These trucks can get access to locations and loading points where others struggle," he said.

Tag axle layout improves flexibility

The new Scania R560 units use a tag axle configuration. This layout supports both hydraulic installation and operational flexibility.

Without a mid axle, there is more chassis space for hydraulic equipment. This makes installation of HARSH tractor kits more straightforward. Drivers also benefit from improved access behind the cab.

This helps when connecting trailers and managing suzies. The liftable rear axle improves manoeuvrability. It reduces the effective wheelbase during reversing and tight turns.

Off-road performance also improves. Lifting the axle increases weight on the drive axle, boosting traction in field conditions. "For us, the tag axle layout is ideal," Gibson added.

Supporting a growing agricultural operation

AWSM Farming operates from its base near Richmond, North Yorkshire.

A second depot in Cambridgeshire extends coverage across East Anglia and Lincolnshire. The company provides a range of agricultural services. These include slurry handling, digestate supply, haulage and equipment hire.

Founded in 1996, the family-owned business has developed a strong position in the sector. Gibson said: "Our trucks are as near to being state of the art as we can make them. "Although a small part of their overall specification, the HARSH tractor kits are absolutely crucial to their successful operation."
