DAF XD Electric fleet grows as Contargo adds 33 units to operations
The DAF XD Electric has been deployed at scale by German logistics operator Contargo, with 33 new units now in service across its European network. The vehicles will be used for container transport between terminals in Germany, France and Switzerland. Contargo has worked with DAF on electric trucks since 2019.
The latest delivery brings its total electric fleet close to 100 units. The company is targeting full CO2 neutrality by 2045. The addition of the DAF XD Electric represents a further step towards that goal.
Managing Director Michael Starke said: "The handover of the 33 DAF Electric trucks is an important step for us in further expanding zero-emission transport. "The XD Electric shows how sustainability, safety and efficiency can be combined with great driver comfort."
Range and battery specification
Each DAF XD Electric in the fleet is equipped with five battery packs. This delivers a range of more than 500km on a single charge.
The trucks use PACCAR electric motors, offering outputs between 170kW and 350kW. Battery capacity across the wider range spans from 210kWh to 525kWh, depending on configuration. This setup allows the DAF XD Electric to operate on both regional and longer-distance routes.
The vehicles are designed to support demanding container operations while maintaining zero tailpipe emissions.
Designed for distribution and longer routes
The DAF XD Electric is positioned as a flexible solution for urban and regional work. However, its range and specification also support longer-distance applications. The cab design focuses on visibility, with strong direct and indirect sightlines.
All vehicles in the Contargo fleet are specified with Sleeper High Cab layouts. These provide improved space and driver comfort during extended shifts.
Partnership supports wider transition
DAF Trucks says the delivery highlights a shared ambition to accelerate decarbonisation in logistics. Harald Seidel, President of DAF Trucks, said: "The delivery of 33 new XD Electric trucks to Contargo emphasises the technological lead of our new generation of electric vehicles.
"We will continue taking the next steps of the energy transition together." Contargo operates 25 container terminals across central Europe. The company specialises in intermodal container transport linking ports with inland destinations.
The introduction of the DAF XD Electric fleet strengthens its position in low-emission logistics.
