M6 expected to stay closed until afternoon after serious overnight crash
The M6 is expected to be closed after the crash between a lorry and two cars. The M6 is expected to remain closed until Monday (16 February) afternoon, according to the latest information from Traffic England. The M6 was closed after a serious crash between a lorry and two cars[1] on the northbound carriageway between junction 32 and 33 shortly before midnight (15 February).
The southbound carriageway has since reopened but the northbound carriageway has remained closed into the morning (16 February) and there are long delays on approach to junction 32 and on the A6 diversion route through Broughton and Barton.
Traffic England is estimating that the road will reopen between 3.15pm and 3.30pm on Monday, although this estimate can change. The carriageway is closed while investigation work takes place.
A spokesperson for police said earlier: "We want to let you know that the M6 is currently closed Northbound between Junctions 32 - 33 due to a serious road traffic collision (Southbound is now open). "We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time whilst we assess the situation. "In the meantime, we'd recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination.
"We'll keep tabs on what's happening and update you here once the motorway is back open. "As always, thank you for your patience and stay safe if you're out and about today."
