MAN TGS 8×4 tipper marks Onpoint Group’s move into bulk haulage

Onpoint Group has taken delivery of its first MAN TGS 8x4 tipper, marking a significant step in the company's fleet and service expansion. The Birmingham-based operator has added a MAN TGS 35.440 to its growing fleet following the acquisition of Nottinghamshire firm Eric Elliott Transport in May 2025. The vehicle is the first tipper to carry the Onpoint Group livery and signals the group's entry into bulk haulage and associated services.

Painted in Onpoint's blue and red colours, the truck has been named Gemma May, after its driver's wife. It operates within the Eric Elliott Transport fleet, which now sits under the Onpoint Group umbrella.

Built for demanding site work

The MAN TGS 8x4 tipper features a 15m? Meiller-Boweld Mightylite HD steel body.

Constructed from Hardox steel, the body uses 4mm side walls and tailgate with a 5mm floor. It is mounted on MAN's heavy-duty TGS chassis and specified for durability in construction and muck-away work. Power comes from MAN's latest 12.4-litre D26 Euro VI OBD-E engine, producing 440hp (316kW).

Drive is handled by the 12-speed MAN TipMatic automated gearbox with efficiency and off-road software modes. The vehicle runs on steel front and rear suspension with hypoid rear axles and N3G classification. An 8mm chassis rail specification supports heavy-duty operation.

Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels complete the build. To maximise payload while maintaining cab comfort, Onpoint specified the compact 2,240mm-wide NN day cab. The cab offers improved visibility and reduced unladen weight, while still providing a comfortable working environment.

Anthony Delaney, sales and marketing director at Onpoint Group, said the vehicle reflects the company's wider growth strategy.

"With the acquisition of Eric Elliott Transport, we marked a major milestone in our continued growth strategy and set a clear vision for where the business is heading."

He added that the TGS underlines the breadth of services now available.

"With the addition of bulk haulage, muck-away services, grab hire, walking-floor trailers, aggregates supply and specialist recycling, we can deliver a true one-stop-shop."

Safety, compliance and driver support

The MAN TGS 8x4 tipper has been specified with a comprehensive safety package. Systems include Turn Assist, Front Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, MAN AttentionGuard and a reversing motion system. Distance warning and emergency braking systems are also fitted.

A 360-degree CCTV system supports urban operation and compliance. The vehicle meets Direct Vision Standard requirements and supports FORS Silver accreditation. Further safety systems include ESP, ASR, EBS, ABS with off-road logic and cruise control.

The specification reflects Onpoint's focus on operating in busy urban and construction environments. The Meiller-Boweld body is fitted with Binotto front-end tipping gear, a PM 1155 weighing system and a twin-cam tailgate locking system. Load safety is supported by a flip-over sheeting system and in-cab body raised warning.

Cab specification and driver environment

Driver comfort has not been ignored.

The cab features MAN's 12.3-inch professional instrumentation and multifunction steering wheel. Seating is provided by a comfort air-suspended driver's seat with lumbar and shoulder adjustment. Climate control is handled by manual air conditioning, supported by a sunshade to reduce glare.

Infotainment is via the MAN Media System with a 7-inch display, satellite navigation, smartphone integration and MAN sound system. Delaney said feedback on MAN's construction products had been positive.

"We've heard a lot of good things about the MAN TGS, especially around robustness, efficiency and reliability."

He also highlighted the dealer and manufacturer support.

"MAN's partnering approach is very much in keeping with how we serve our customers."

Fleet expansion continues

The TGS joins a combined Onpoint and Eric Elliott Transport fleet of more than 100 vehicles operating from three Midlands sites. Eric Elliott Transport was founded in the 1950s and brings long-standing experience in haulage and waste removal.

Alongside the MAN TGS 8x4 tipper, Onpoint has also ordered 15 MAN TGX 26.520 6x2 tractor units. The tractors will support contract and general haulage operations, as well as the group's Palletforce activity. The first TGX units began entering service in September.

All 16 vehicles are funded through MAN Financial Services. Arran Bell, new truck sales executive at MAN Truck & Bus UK, said the relationship has developed quickly.

"We're delighted to deliver the first new TGS tipper to the group and to move forward with the TGX tractor order."

Vehicle preparation and PDI were carried out by Aquila Truck Centres in Tipton. The vehicles will be maintained under a full R&M contract.

Nationwide dealer support and MAN Mobile24 roadside assistance provide backup throughout the UK and Europe.
