Zachary Thole: Celebrating 40 Years with Furnell Transport

Zachary Thole, the Managing Director of Furnell Transport, is celebrating 40 years with the company since joining as a traffic clerk at the tender age of 17. He has worked his way up through the ranks since starting in 1985, becoming the transport manager and transport director, before moving into his current role as managing director.

"There have been many changes during my time, particularly keeping up to date with the many different government alterations in legislation, which can make life interesting. But I couldn't do the job without my team, many of whom have been part of the business for over twenty years themselves.

Every day is different as we navigate the varying and changing needs of our customers. Our work can be so varied, ranging from delivering an industrial 3 deck pizza oven to a kitchen in the basement of a restaurant to lowering a large heavyweight printer through a hole in the roof of an office block to the offices below; and somehow we have to make this happen.  We don't just deliver, we also plan and manage how a consignment will be fitted and located into position at the destination location.

Because of that we work closely alongside our customers, listening to what is needed, offering advice and planning for the manpower and equipment to carry out the job safely. This can often lead to site surveys in advance of any job to assess any in-depth needs. If I'm honest, I can't quite believe that forty years has passed by so quickly.

Together with the team we will continue to look to the future as committed to providing the ongoing level of service to our customers as we have always been, which is why no two days are ever the same."

Furnell Transport have been in business since 1967, started by David Furnell in the back bedroom of his mum's flat. David is now chairman, and the company has gone on to grow and develop to a fleet of over 15 vehicles, working in many industry sectors including aerospace, medical, computing, telecommunications, printing, dangerous goods and nuclear.  Furnells aims to be their customer 'go to provider' for specialised and general transport solutions, for deliveries, across the UK and within Europe.

Also providing warehousing and storage facilities, along with secure lorry parking.

Despite the challenges affecting the transport industry over the years, Furnells remains defined by its values of integrity, quality, and teamwork, maintaining strong relationships with customers and a close-knit, good-humoured workforce that takes pride in delivering exceptional service every single day.
