Element 2 to open new hydrogen refuelling station in Glasgow

This latest order builds on the partnership between the two companies, following Element 2's purchase of an HRS station for its Teesside Airport site in 2024. The new HRS14 station has a refuelling capacity of 14 kg/hour and offers both 350 bar and 700 bar refuelling. Crucially, it has been designed to be modular and fully transportable, allowing it to be installed and operational on site in as little as 10 days.
By enabling the station to be relocated to different sites as demand grows, Element 2 will maximise utilisation of its assets and avoid the risk of underused infrastructure - a key challenge in early-stage hydrogen rollouts. Dr. Andrew Hagan, chief development officer at Element 2, said: "Through our collaboration with HRS, we have developed an innovative mobile refuelling solution that enables us to trial, test and demonstrate hydrogen vehicles in real-world conditions without compromise.
"The station can expand capacity as demand grows and be redeployed to new locations, making it a breakthrough in flexible, cost-effective infrastructure. He added: "We are particularly excited to be developing Scotland's first dedicated hydrogen HGV refuelling site with our partners at Russell Transport, an innovator in sustainable, integrated supply chain solutions for the modern era. "With a fleet of more than 250 vehicles, Russell's represents exactly the kind of operator that can showcase hydrogen's potential at scale - and this project will give them, and others, a seamless first experience of hydrogen refuelling.
That could save over 25,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year." RACHEDI Hassen, HRS founder, commented: "I am enthusiastic to see our technology contributing to the acceleration of hydrogen mobility in the UK alongside Element 2. "After Teesside, it is now Glasgow that will host a mobile HRS14 station, deployed with Russell Logistics.
This new milestone perfectly illustrates our mission: delivering flexible, high-performance and practical solutions to democratise access to hydrogen and reduce the carbon footprint of transport. "With our partnership and Element 2's ambitious "50 stations in five years" programme, we see a bright future for hydrogen mobility in the UK and across Europe." Graham Russell, chief executive at John G Russell (Transport) said: "We selected Element 2 as our preferred partner for hydrogen refuelling because of the supply, maintenance and industry expertise they bring.
"With the support of Innovate UK and Dynamon through the ZenFreight project, we are committed to pioneering low-carbon solutions across both road and rail.
"Developing Scotland's first dedicated hydrogen HGV refuelling site, potentially at one of our locations such as the Coatbridge rail hub, is a natural next step that will allow us to integrate hydrogen into our fleet and rail operations while accelerating the Russell Group's transition to sustainable logistics."
