Man dies after car and lorry crash on A1(M) in North Yorkshire

Both vehicles were travelling northbound when the crash happened at about 10.45pm last night (Friday, August 8) near Leeming Bar and Bedale. The A1(M) remained closed northbound this morning from junction 50 at Ripon to junction 52 at Catterick for crash investigation work but has since reopened. North Yorkshire Police said the driver of the car - a blue Suzuki hatchback - was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the lorry - a blue Scania - was uninjured, police said. Paramedics, including an air ambulance, were called to the scene last night. North Yorkshire Police had urged drivers[1] to avoid the area after the crash.
Officers are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact North Yorkshire Police. "We're appealing to anyone who was travelling north or southbound and either witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles prior to the incident, to get in touch if they have not already spoken to officers at the scene," a force spokesperson said. "We're also appealing to anyone with dashcam footage of the collision or the moments leading up to it, taken from either carriageway.
