A1(M) Durham: Investigation into serious crash at Coxhoe

Privacy screens were erected around the wreckage, shielding the scene from view as forensic officers examined the debris-strewn road. The road was fully reopened by 11.25am. A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called just before 2.20am today to a serious collision on the A1(M). "The incident, which involved one vehicle, is believed to have happened on the northbound carriageway near Coxhoe."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a one vehicle road traffic incident on the A1M near Coxhoe at 2.20am this morning.
We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and a rapid response paramedic." Debris on the A1(M) near Coxhoe (Image: NORTHERN ECHO) At one point, four miles of queues were reported southbound between Carrville and Bowburn, while Highways England confirmed delays of up to 60 minutes southbound and 15 minutes northbound.
Diversion routes were put in place northbound via the A689, A177, and A688, and southbound via the A688, A177, and A689.
