Research on Air Pollution has Increased by 134.35% Since 2015
Research on air pollution has garnered significant interest with researchers in the past 10 years. Only 8,731 documents were published on air pollution in 2015, rising to 20,465 in 2024 - a 134.35% increase.

China has consistently outperformed all other countries in research output into air pollution over the past decade, issuing 46,385 publications. In second place, the US has published 30,100 research documents since 2014, followed by India with 12,327 publications.

In the past 20 years, research documents on two of the most significant factors in air pollution - nitrogen oxides (NOx) and small particle air pollution (PM2.5) -- have increased. Research into nitrogen oxides (NOx) has totaled 82,963 since 2004, rising from 2,189 papers to 6,194 publications in 2024 (a 183% increase). Despite gaining less interest overall in comparison to NOx with just 51,998 research documents, PM2.5 has seen a more significant increase since 2004, skyrocketing from 422 to 6,427 papers in 2024 (a 1353.62% rise), showing promising signs of increased interest in this field.
