Morocco, Türkiye sign MoUs on road safety and maritime cooperation
Morocco and Turkiye signed two memoranda of understanding on Friday in Istanbul to strengthen cooperation in road safety and maritime transport, officials said. The agreements were signed by Moroccan Transport Minister Abdessamad Kayouh and Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu on the sidelines of the Global Transport Connectivity Forum currently held in Istanbul. The first MoU focuses on enhancing technological cooperation in road safety, with a particular emphasis on securing road freight transport.
Kayouh said Morocco is keen to benefit from Turkiye's experience in this area. The second agreement aims to bolster Morocco's maritime capabilities, supporting a government-led initiative to expand the national fleet. Kayouh praised Turkiye's expertise in shipbuilding and maritime navigation.
During the forum, bringing together ministers, global institutions, and private sector players from over 60 countries, Morocco is showcasing its integrated transport development strategy and sharing its experience in air, maritime, rail, and road infrastructure. Head of the Moroccan delegation highlighted Morocco's ambition to contribute to global dialogue on mobility, innovation, and sustainability, and recalled that air transport remains a national priority through the "Airports 2030" strategy. Morocco is also presenting its maritime transport roadmap, which includes a study currently underway to open "green corridors" connecting Moroccan ports to global markets, in line with rising international demand and environmental commitments.
On road transport, head of the delegation underlined Morocco's recent progress and long-term vision, pointing to ongoing modernization efforts and logistics infrastructure upgrades across the country.
The forum's agenda focuses on enhancing cross-border connectivity, addressing infrastructure financing gaps, promoting digitalization and AI in transport, and advancing sustainable, resilient, and inclusive mobility systems.
