Live as lorry and motorbike motorway crash causing traffic gridlock

Traffic on the A1M in South Yorkshire is being turned around after a 55-year-old motorbiker died after a crash with a lorry. The crash happened between junction 35 for the M18 and junction 34 for Blyth[1] before 6.30am today (Wednesday, June 18). South Yorkshire Police[2] and Yorkshire Ambulance Service crews have been at the scene. In National Highways' latest update, a spokesperson said: "Northbound traffic is being released slowly past scene in lane 1.
Southbound traffic is being turned and released via the rear of the queue. Due to the large volume of traffic it may take some time for you to see movement.." Traffic data site Inrix said: "A1(M) Southbound closed, long delays due to accident from J35 (M18 Interchange) to J34 (Blyth / Bawtry).
Congestion to after J37 (Marr) heading southbound. Sensors and cameras show that traffic has been released on the Northdbound side. Southbound side remains closed."
