Woman seriously injured in M6 crash between van and lorry

A woman has been rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries' following a crash on the M6[1] this morning (May 15). Police, firefighters, paramedics and highways officers were called to the scene on the northbound carriageway between J31A and J32[2]. Lancashire[3] Police said the collision happened at 5.42am and involved a van and a lorry. A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries.

No arrests have been reported. All traffic was temporarily held on the motorway resulting in 'severe delays'. Three lanes remain closed with miles of tailbacks in the area.

The incident is also causing congestion on routes through Preston[4] and delays to bus services. Traffic England warns that delays are expected to continue until around midday. The latest update from national Highways North West on X read: "Lanes, 2, 3 and 4 are closed on the #M6 northbound between J31A (#Preston) and J32 (#M55) due to a multi-vehicle collision.

Emergency services including @LancsPolice are working on scene. "There are delays of at least 45 minutes on approach."

Traffic monitoing service Inrix also reports: "Severe delays and three lanes closed due to accident on M6 Northbound from J31A B6242 Bluebell Way (Longridge[5]) to J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange). Congestion to Routes through preston.

"Lanes three, four and five (of five) remain closed with traffic passing in lanes one and two." In a statement, a police spokesperson said: "At 5:42am today (Thursday 15th May) we were called to reports of a collision between a van and a lorry on the M6 northbound between Junction 31A and 32, near Preston. "Emergency services attended and a woman in her 40s was taken to hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries.

The motorway was closed for a period, northbound between Junction 31A and 32. Two lanes have now been reopened."
