Lorry crash sees major A-road closed for 10 hours with two taken to hospital

The A14 westbound was closed on Thursday (April 17) from Brampton Hut to J21 at Ellington after three lorries were involved in a crash. The crash was first reported at around 3.30am. The East of England Ambulance service attended. Two people were later taken to hospital[1] - one to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and another to Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon.
An ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.02am with reports of a collision on the A14 near Ellington. We sent two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and a Magpas response car. "One person was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital and one person was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital for further care." Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue also attended and had to use specialist equipment to remove one person from a lorry[2].
A fire spokesperson said: "Two crews from Huntingdon and two crews from St Neots were called to a road traffic collision between Brampton and Ellington this morning shortly after 3am. The collision involved three lorries. "Two casualties were out of their vehicle on arrival and firefighters used specialist equipment to release one casualty from their vehicle.
All casualties were left in the care of the ambulance service." Cambridgeshire Police were also at the scene to assist with recovery of the vehicles. The road has now reopened.
Inrix, the traffic monitoring site, says that the "traffic is easing".
