Infinity Container Logistics has taken delivery of 10 Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor units, with the new arrivals already outperforming all other trucks on the company's fleet in terms of fuel efficiency. The Felixstowe-based business is using the FH Aeros - which replace older Volvo models - for containerised haulage to and from ports across the UK. It works its trucks hard, averaging around 180,000 km per annum, making reliability and fuel efficiency top of the list when it comes to its procurement decisions.
Luke Grayling, General Manager at Infinity Container Logistics, says: "We were keen to see the MPG potential of the new Aero and the initial impressions are very good.
We currently run a mixed 90-plus strong truck fleet of different manufacturers and look forward to seeing the true potential of these new assets.
"Volvo offers a great overall package. Fuel is obviously hugely important, but downtime is the single biggest threat to our business. The Volvos are very reliable and the back-up we get from the service department is outstanding."
The FH Aero delivers substantial fuel consumption and emissions reductions of up to five per cent in comparison to a standard FH through a refined aerodynamic design and the deployment of several new Volvo technologies.
Supplied by Matt Kubot, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus South & East, Infinity Container Logistics' new tractor units are powered by Euro 6-compliant D13TC Step E engines which leverage turbo compound technology to deliver an additional 300 Nm of torque.
This extends the FH Aero's fuel economy potential even further by introducing an extra turbine after the turbocharger to reuse excess fuel from the exhausts, which is then converted to torque directly on the crankshaft, providing a powerful and extremely fuel-efficient engine.
The innovative engines are paired with Volvo's popular 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox technology and I-See predictive cruise control to yield significant sustainability and operational gains.
Driver comfort was also high on the specification checklist, with Infinity Container Logistics adding a heated and ventilated driver's seat, a rotating passenger seat and leather upholstery inside the Globetrotter cab.
A 33-litre under-bunk fridge/freezer, rear cab storage and a comfortable single bunk with mattress overlay protector ensures the business' hard-working drivers have an ideal working environment for long days and nights on the road.
The exterior of each new FH Aero is finished with Dura-Bright alloy wheels, while Volvo's Camera Monitoring System (CMS) replaces the traditional wing mirrors - contributing to further aerodynamic performance but also boosting safety and visibility.
The manufacturers' CMS solution increases the driver's field of view and, when driving with a trailer, deploys auto-panning functionality to follow the rear of the trailer as it turns.
It also performs strongly in rainy and dark conditions, direct sunlight and even when driving in tunnels.
"The drivers are all die-hard Volvo fans, so we wanted to make sure they liked their new trucks," adds Grayling. "These FH Aeros definitely tick the box."
The new additions are all backed by a Volvo Gold Contract including preventive maintenance and repairs to guarantee complete peace of mind, as well as a comprehensive and personal service.
Founded in 2017, Infinity Container Logistics operates a top-quality fleet of commercial vehicles delivering a broad range of container transport and forwarding services nationwide.
