LIVE M6 traffic as lorry overturns to spark rush hour chaos near Preston

Drivers are being warned of long delays[1] on the M6 after a lorry overturned near Preston. Pictures from the scene show a HGV on its side on the southbound motorway between junctions 32 for Preston and 33 for Lancaster. National Highways said all traffic was initially stopped on the southbound carriageway, while one lane was also closed heading north.

Two lanes remain closed southbound. The agency posted on X: "Traffic is stopped on the M6 in Lancashire southbound between J33 & J32 due to a collision. Lane 3 (of 3) is closed northbound between J32 and J33.

"Emergency services in attendance. Please allow extra journey time. Thank you for your patience."

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Southbound from J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South / Garstang) to J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange). "Traffic was briefly held, Lane two and three (of three) are closed southbound and lane three (of three) remains closed northbound is assist." The Traffic England website is reporting delays of around 50 minutes.
