Carousel Logistics adds Birmingham Airport facility

Carousel_Logistics_Birmingham_Source_Carousel_Via__Meantime_18_2_25 Time-critical firm Carousel Logistics has opened a new facility at Birmingham Airport in the UK to reduce transport distances and make operations from the hub more efficient. The new facility is located near the M42 and M6 motorways and triples the company's previous handling capabilities.

Carousel explained that previously cargo was transported from the airport to Coventry, a journey of around 12 miles, whereas now it can go directly from the airport to final destination. The company reckons the move could reduce up to 50,000 miles of road transport per year. "Our new facility at Birmingham Airport will allow us to handle even greater volumes of cargo within the same tight time window," said Andrew Lowery, UK managing director, Carousel Logistics.

"Strategically located near the M42 and M6 motorways, Birmingham International station, new HS2 links, and our electric rail freight partner Varamis Rail, this investment will dramatically improve line haul times and cut carbon emissions." The in-night logistics specialist has also invested in new lower-emissions equipment at Birmingham Airport as part of its long-term sustainability strategy, with forklifts and belt loaders now electrically powered, ground power units running on HVO biofuel, instead of diesel, and a new fleet of electric vans. This is the second investment the company has made into its UK operations over the last 12 months.

Last summer, Carousel acquired UK-based Logik Logistics International[1] to expand its services and its network across Europe.

The group said the acquisition would enhance its round-the-clock services on-demand/ad-hoc cross-border logistics, including express road, airfreight, aircraft charter, On Board Courier (OBC) and specialised handling for time-critical shipments.
