FSEW charges towards diesel-free operation with four Volvo FM electrics

International freight decarbonisation specialist FSEW has continued its ambitious sustainability journey with the arrival of two more Volvo FM Electric 4x2 tractor units, adding to a pair of identical vehicles delivered earlier in the year. Supplied by Darren Padfield, Area Sales Manager, Truck and Bus Wales and West, the trucks will contribute significantly to the Cardiff-based company's clear commitment to decarbonisation, with the business on track to achieve net zero emissions by 2025. Geoff Tomlinson, Managing Director, FSEW says: "Volvo's electric technology has exceeded our expectations, which is why we've doubled down with another order for two FM Electrics so soon after our first deliveries.

The reliability and performance of these vehicles proved key in our ongoing decarbonisation ambitions, and so we see Volvo Trucks as the ideal partner for our fleet electrification efforts. "The latest delivery is a testament to our commitment to cleaner, greener transportation, with our business having already successfully removed more than 1.6 million diesel miles off UK roads since 2022." Powered by three electrical motors which generate 666 hp and 2,400 Nm of continuous torque, the FM Electrics are equipped with the maximum six batteries.

Volvo's standard I-Shift gearbox delivers a smooth and ultra-quiet driving experience by constantly evaluating information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand. The new trucks will operate six days a week pulling curtainsider trailers and containers, each clocking up approximately 120,000 miles annually. The vehicles are expected to remain in the FSEW fleet for at least 5 years.

"The first two FM Electrics have already received rave reviews from the front line," adds Tomlinson. "Our drivers love the vehicles and have reported they are a delight to drive - they could not be happier.

"We appreciate the unwavering support we have had from the team at Volvo HQ, and Truck and Bus Wales and West, in helping us push towards achieving diesel-free operation by the end of this year."

The FM Electrics are all backed by a Volvo Gold contract which guarantees maximum uptime and covers all maintenance and repairs, including proactive monitoring of batteries and associated components.
