FM Electric duo powers FSEW towards 100% diesel-free haulage

FSEW is stepping up its green game with two new Volvo FM Electric 4x2 tractor units. These trucks join the pair the firm put on the road earlier this year, which is all part of their plan to hit net-zero emissions by 2025.

Truck and Bus Wales & West supplied the vehicles, which FSEW said are crucial to their push for cleaner transportation.

Geoff Tomlinson, FSEW's managing director, said: "Volvo's electric technology has blown us away, so we quickly ordered two more. Their performance and reliability make them perfect for our fleet's shift to electric."

FSEW has already slashed over 1.6 million diesel miles from UK roads since 2022, and these trucks are another big step.

The FM Electric trucks are spec'd with three electric motors delivering 666 bhp and 2400 Nm of torque, plus six batteries and Volvo's I-Shift gearbox.

The trucks will run six days a week, pulling trailers and containers for 120,000 miles each year.

The FM Electric vehicles have proven a hit with drivers. "The first two FM Electrics have already received rave reviews from the front line," said Tomlinson. "Our drivers love the vehicles and have reported they are a delight to drive - they could not be happier."

The vehicles are expected to stay in the fleet for at least five years, backed by a Volvo Gold contract for maintenance, repairs and battery monitoring.

Launched in 2002, FSEW operates from Cardiff, handling freight forwarding, logistics and haulage for clients like Tesco, Ford and Rockwool.

The company is confident about achieving diesel-free operations by the end of this year.
