Founded in 1986 by Alfred and Trevor Rowell, Rowell’s Transport has remained a family-run business with a reputation for providing high-quality bulk haulage services. Based in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, the company has become a key player in the East Anglian transport industry, specialising in the movement of combinable crops and other bulk goods across the UK.
Operating within the agricultural sector, serving the grain industry for over 30 years, Rowell’s works closely with the UK’s largest grain merchants and farmers, transporting cereals such as wheat, oilseed rape, beans, peas, and other produce. It also handles animal feeds, bulk potatoes (both in bulk and in boxes), and aggregates, offering a flexible solution for various bulk goods. A core part of its service includes TASCC-registered bulk tipper operations, which guarantees compliance with the industry’s strictest quality and safety standards.
It operates a modern and well-maintained fleet of Scania and Volvo vehicles, including 16 tipper trailers, 2 fridge trailers, and a tautliner. This diverse fleet allows Rowell’s to provide reliable transport for a range of goods, from temperature-sensitive items to bulk agricultural produce. Its dedication to service continuity is demonstrated by its meticulous vehicle management, ensuring that deliveries are always punctual and meet clients’ needs, no matter the cargo.
Rowell’s strengths have been championed over the years with the company earning accolades for its fleet at truck shows across the UK.
Recent achievements include winning “Best Senior Truck” at Truckfest Scotland, along with a series of wins at Whitchurch and The Lincoln Show, highlighting its commitment to excellence both on the road and in showcasing its top-tier vehicles. Significant investments in its fleet over the past year underline the company’s commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient operation. In the last 12 months, it has added a new Volvo FH500 rear tag tractor unit and a Wilcox Step Frame tipping trailer, for example.
These investments enhance its ability to transport a variety of bulk goods, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner in the haulage industry.
As part of its future ambitions, Rowell’s is exploring the potential for incorporating electric vehicles into the fleet, keeping an eye on sustainability trends.
While the company is not planning substantial expansion over the next five years, it is focused on optimising operations.
By leveraging tools like fuel management systems, driver performance logs, and a newly implemented Transport Management System, Rowell’s is committed to enhancing efficiency and profitability, all while preserving the family values that have been the foundation of the business for nearly four decades.
