Behind Monex Group’s success is a real drive towards being a fundamental link in the supply chain for key customers. Although working with a broad range of clientele across automotive, retail, construction, and even into public sector, the firm fully understands the integral push towards delivering efficiencies down through the supply chain and goes above and beyond to support this drive.

This is primarily driven through real-time tracking, continued driver training, and a partnership-led approach which feeds into a far more integrated form of service that can fully support client KPIs across the board. Looking towards the fleet, Monex Group runs a fleet of more than 150 vehicles and 350 trailers, including everything from rigids with tail lifts through to 65-100Tm Hiabs, and a mixture of both general fleet and European trailer formats to handle the vast assortment of specialised work that comes through the group. Quite interestingly, the firm does operate a fleet of electric company cars and sprinters, which roughly account for an impressive 40% of the total fleet and growing.

Most recently (July, 2024), Monex Group invested in a brand new all-electric E Maxus van for operation out of its APC Newport offering.

Now travelling an average of 120 miles per day with deliveries and collections, the van notably uses Monex Group’s own solar panel network (situated across the APC warehouse at Monex Group HQ) for charging purposes; in doing so, the firm is able to both get the most out of its renewables investment and carve a way forward for drastic carbon reductions across the route. The on-site charging facilities are also used across the wider EV fleet.

Mark Thomas, Depot Manager for APC Newport explained: “We are driven as a business to make a positive difference within Newport and south Wales. For us, we’ve always worked on the principle of making investments that deliver real benefits.

The investments we have made into our warehouse and business to date, notably the rooftop solar panels, meets the criteria in finding a perfect sweet spot in delivering real benefits for our local SME customers and our local community. We hope to continue further investment in electronic vehicles.”

Further to the new van, Monex Group also recently (August, 2024) undertook trials with the Volvo FM 4×2 42T GVW across a two-week period, allowing the firm to understand present day EV capabilities within the HGV side of the business and feasibility in current operations. Following a positive experience with the vehicle and overwhelmingly positive feedback from the driver in particular, Monex Group is now assessing the possibility of adding the model to the fleet and taking a huge step forward in electrification across the more challenging segment of operations.

Taking a look across wider investments, Monex Group has also been investing into its built infrastructure in the form of two  new sheds and the renovation of its existing warehousing facilities to better support a growing demand for services, in addition to broadening storage capabilities. Furthermore, through the acquisition of Bridgetime Transport and the APC partnership, the firm is fuelling significant growth within the Palletways network.

Going forward, Monex Group does indeed plan for commercial growth and is actively assessing worthwhile opportunities within the transport sector. Aside from that, the firm is also keen to drive up both operational and environmental efficiencies, which will include the consolidation of existing departments, streamlining of services, and further efforts to reduce the firm’s carbon footprint.

Finally, through Monex Academy, the group hopes to target the oft-reported skills gap within the industry and create a pipeline of accessible industry talent, all while developing exciting careers in the transport sector for aspiring professionals.
