Туреччина, Ірак, Катар та ОАЕ: Запуск проекту з розвитку іракських доріг для з’єднання Азії та Європи

Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, announced that a quadrilateral meeting will take place in Istanbul to discuss a strategic project for developing Iraqi roads. Officials from Iraq, Qatar, and the UAE will attend this meeting, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply[1].

This will be achieved through the expansion of rail and road infrastructure.

Key decisions regarding the project are expected to be made during the meeting.

Numerous Arab, regional, and European countries have expressed interest in participating in the project, both through investments and construction involvement. The project is crucial as a link between Asia and Europe.

In April last year, Iraq, Turkey, the UAE, and Qatar signed a cooperation agreement for the “Iraq Development Road” project.

The agreement was signed by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It aims to foster collaboration and create the necessary conditions for project implementation.

The “Development Road” project is expected to contribute to economic growth and enhance regional and international cooperation.

It will promote economic integration between the East and the West.

The road’s operational launch is projected to increase trade volume between Turkey and Iraq from £20 billion to £30-40 billion.

Additionally, the project could turn Iraq into a significant transit hub, reducing transportation time between Asia and Europe and providing competition to the Suez Canal.

Al-Sudani reported that the project will include a railway with a capacity of 3.5 million tons in the first phase and 7.5 million tons in the second phase.

The project also encompasses the construction of a highway, energy pipelines, the Grand Port of Al-Faw, and an industrial city that will become one of the largest in the Middle East.

This will create new job opportunities and investment prospects for Iraq and the entire region, as well as attract global trade.
