A14 shuts between Ellington and Catworth for six hours overnight after crash between lorry and car

The A14[1] was closed westbound between Ellington and Catworth, near Huntingdon[2], overnight on Saturday (July 13). The six-hour closure followed a crash between a lorry and a car that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning and left one person injured. The road closure allowed the lorry to be recovered.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The collision occurred at around 1.30am on Saturday. Crews from Huntingdon and St Neots, along with a crew from Thrapston in Northamptonshire, attended the incident. “This was on the A14 westbound between junctions 17 and 16.

Firefighters arrived to find a collision involving a lorry and a car, with the lorry on its side.

“A casualty was rescued and left in the care of ambulance crews. The crews returned to their stations by around 3am.”

Fire crews were not involved in the lorry’s recovery. A National Highways[5] spokesperson reported at 10pm: “A14[6] in Cambridgeshire[7] is closed westbound between J20 Ellington and J16 Catworth for specialist recovery following an earlier collision.” In a statement at approximately 4am on Sunday (July 14), a spokesperson for National Highways said: “The A14 in Cambridgeshire[8] has re-opened westbound between J20 Ellington and J16 Catworth following completion of specialist recovery from an earlier collision.

Thank you for your patience. Please have a safe onward journey.” Cambridgeshire’s emergency services have been contacted for comment.
