Live: Serious lorry crash shuts M45 near Rugby as police rush to scene

A "serious" collision involving a HGV has closed the M45 near Rugby tonight Monday, April 22). It was first reported at 5.15pm. Emergency services rushed to the scene, with the motorway closed westbound as of 6.15pm.

The closure is in place westbound between the M1 and A45, with traffic at a standstill. National Highways said in an initial update on the incident at 6pm: "The M45 is closed westbound between the M1 and A45 near Rugby due to a serious collision involving a HGV. The incident was reported to National Highways at 17:15 from Warwickshire Police who requested a carriageway closure while emergency services work at scene.

"National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management. Due to the nature of the collision, the road is likely to remain closed throughout the remainder of the evening." This is a breaking news story.
