A1 traffic news live as crash shuts motorway for hours with huge delays
Rush hour queues build as A1 remains shut
One lane of the A1(M) remains closed – almost 15 hours after the stretch of motorway was first shut. The A1(M) was closed between junction 48 at Boroughbridge and junction 47 at Allerton Park following a fatal collision which occured at around 2.10am this morning.[1] The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, sadly died at the scene.
Initially, both sides of the carriageway were shut. Since then, the Northbound direction has been reopened but lane three remains closed, while the southbound carriageway remains completely closed. Our travel partner, Inrix, reports: “A1(M) Southbound closed, long delays due to accident investigation work between J48 A6055 (Boroughbridge) and J47 A59 (Allerton Park).
Congestion to J49 (Thirsk / Dishforth). “Traffic is slow through Boroughbridge as drivers continue to avoid the closure. Traffic is also slow on the A19 heading towards York and on the A61 heading towards Ripley.Ongoing since around 02:30 this morning.
The northbound direction has re-opened, however lane three (of three) remains closed.
Diversion – via the A168 that runs parallel to the A1M.”
