Reason for A1(M) gridlock traffic near Hatfield revealed
Vehicles were queuing for hours along the northbound carriageway and being diverted after officers shut the Hatfield tunnel near junction 3 shortly after 7pm.
At around 9.15pm, BCH Road Policing Unit posted on X: “The Hatfield tunnel remains closed whilst officers deal with an incident on the northbound carriageway.

This morning, a Herts Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 6.51pm yesterday (Sunday) to report a concern for welfare of a man in his 30s near to the A1(M) in Hatfield.
“The man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene, and it was reopened by Highways at 10.52pm.”
