Public Notices: Overnight closures planned for M4 and A-roads

In this week’s public notices there is an advisory from National Highways of overnight road closures to the M4 Motorway and several key A-roads servicing Maidenhead.

Road closures:

National Highways has advised an order is set to be made to close parts of M4, A308(M) and A404(M) overnight during 2024 so maintenance works can take place.

The order, which would see road sections closed between 9pm and 6am, is planned to come into force on January 2 and will last till December 24, 2024.

Closures would be at various locations and times within this time period, with the duration of each closure depending on the work being undertaken.

Planned maintenance work is expected to take place in non peak-time hours however the notice does advice essential maintenance works may be necessary during these times.

Diversions will be in place to marshal traffic to other junctions of the M4 and will vary according to the closure in force at the time.

The measures would be in place to allow contractors to ‘undertake maintenance and renewal work of a cyclical nature’.

The overnight closure will impact roads as follows:

– Both carriageways of the M4 between its junction with A4 and its junction with A419/A346 as well as all the connecting slip and link roads.

– An emergency refuge area along the length of the carriageway above.

– Both carriageways of the A308 (M).

– Both carriageways of the A404(M) between its junction with M4 and the A4 junction.

– All slip roads leading to and from the lengths of carriageways listed above.

– The circulatory systems at the junction of the M4 with A308(M) and A404(M), the junction with A34 and the junction with A346 and A419.

– The hard shoulder along the lengths of the carriageways listed above.

– Both carriageways of A404(M) between the Maidenhead Thicket interchange and its junction with M40, in addition to all connected slip and link roads.

– The circulatory system at Bisham Roundabout and Handy Cross Roundabout.

The order will also permit HGVs to use the outside lane of the M4 while inside lanes are closed.
