Woman suffers head injury after M56 concern for safety

A woman suffered a serious head injury after police were called to concerns for her safety on the M56.

Cheshire Police[1] were called the M56[2] at junction 11 (Preston Brook Interchange) just after 1.50pm on Monday, August 21, following 999 calls reporting concerns for the safety of a woman. Once officers arrived at the scene they found the woman had suffered a serious head injury.

An air ambulance was called to the scene and police confirmed the woman was taken to hospital for treatment. The motorway was closed in both directions following the incident, which cause delays for motorists.

Police advised motorists to avoid the area as delays reached up to 30 minutes when traffic started queuing back. Traffic was able to move on the westbound carriageway shortly before 3.20pm and the closures were completely removed at around 4pm.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: “At around 1.50pm, police were called to concerns for the safety of a woman on the M56 at junction 11. Officers at the scene found that the woman had sustained serious head injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

“A temporary road closure has been put in place on the M56 in both directions at junction 11 and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

Enquiries in relation to this incident are underway and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML 1626098 or call 101
