Man in hospital after M61 crash saw car hit motorway bridge

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after the car he was driving hit a bridge on the M61.
Emergency services closed the northbound section of the motorway between Chorley and Preston[8] for nearly six hours on Tuesday (1 August) evening.
Lancashire Police said they were called to the motorway at 4.30pm to reports a Ford Focus had collided with a Ford Kuga.
The Focus, driven by a man from Wesham, described as being in his late teens, then went on to hit the central reservation and a motorway bridge.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver and passenger in the Kuga, both from Manchester, suffered minor injuries.
Initial reports indicated four vehicles had been involved in the collision but police clarified only two cars were involved.
Police are appealing for information and would like to hear from anybody with a dashcam or from any motorists who saw the collision or saw the Focus or Kuga moments before the crash occured.
