Woman, 24, charged nearly a year after pensioner died in horror crash in Scots town

A WOMAN has been charged nearly a year after a pensioner died in a horror smash.

Emergency services[1] last March raced to the A721 Bellshill Road at the junction with Logans Road, Lanarkshire[2].

A male pensioner, 68, was rushed to the Queen[3] Elizabeth University Hospital where he tragically died a few days later.

The Ford driver, 24, will be reported to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland[4] spokesman said: “A 24-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash in Motherwell.

“Around 9.10pm on Sunday, 17 March, 2024, we received a report of a crash involving a 68-year-old male pedestrian and a white Ford Puma on the A721 Bellshill Road at the junction with Logans Road.

“The 24-year-old female driver of the Ford Puma will be subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.”

It comes after a Scots motorway was shut down after a lorry burst into flames[5] near an airport.

The M8 eastbound was closed at Junction 2 near Edinburgh Airport while emergency crews tackled a blaze.

Motorists were asked to find an alternative route.

And Cops[6] said smoke affected visibility in the area.

There is currently a 50-minute delay following the blaze.

Dramatic images from the scene showed huge flames engulfing the lorry.

Police Scotland said: “The M8 eastbound is currently closed at Junction 2 near Newbridge due to a lorry on fire.

“Emergency services are in attendance and motorists are asked to find an alternative route.”
