M4 speed camera sees man fined for ‘speeding’ at 67mph
Joseph Amenebede, 38, of Dydale Road, Taw Hill, Swindon, appeared for sentencing at Swindon Magistrates Court on Thursday, March 19 after being charged with exceeding a temporary 50mph speed restriction on a motorway. The court heard that the 38-year-old had been behind the wheel of a Hyundai on September 14, 2025 travelling on the M4 junction 19 eastbound while a temporary speed limit of 50mph was in place. He was captured on a speed camera travelling along the busy motorway at 67mph and this incident was proven in a single justice procedure hearing on January 13 of this year.
In mitigation, the court heard that Amenebede is employed by the army and requires his licence to move equipment and he is currently on standby for deployment. It was added that losing his licence would result in him losing his job and he would no longer be able to support his family or drive his wife, who has heart issues, to hospital appointments. Amenebede avoided a driving disqualification and he was fined ?230.
He was also handed three penalty points and he was ordered to pay a surcharge of ?92.
