What happened to Melanie Hall? Mystery over murdered young woman dumped on a motorway
The remains of Melanie Hall were found in October 2009.
(PA)Detectives have issued a fresh appeal for information as the 30th anniversary of the murder of Melanie Hall[1] approaches. The 25-year-old university graduate vanished after a night out in Bath[2] in 1996, with her remains not being discovered for 13 years. Now, officers from Avon and Somerset Police are renewing their call for witnesses, urging anyone who was in the city centre on the night she disappeared to come forward.
The appeal will feature on BBC's Crimewatch Live on Wednesday, alongside interviews with Miss Hall's father, Steve, and her sister, Dominique. Detective Chief Inspector Ben Lavender, who is leading the investigation, described the case as one of the force's longest-running and most complex investigations, involving hundreds of officers over three decades. He said the anniversary was an opportunity for people to try and remember what they were doing on the weekend she was murdered - when England played Switzerland in the opening match of Euro '96 and Bath was especially busy - and to share any information that could finally bring answers.
