Welborne Garden Village
Construction teams are working on the foundations for the Welborne Approach roundabout link road and the new eastbound off-slip from the M27. Once complete, the link road will connect the new junction roundabout with the new slip roads. This will form part of wider road improvements aimed at improving access to the motorway and supporting future development.
Specialist work is also taking place to protect major gas pipes near the newly built section of the High Street Roundabout, where it will eventually connect to the Broadway Roundabout. Two large gas mains run side by side under this part of the site, and the new road will be built directly above them. Before work on the road can continue, engineers must put protection in place to keep the pipes safe.
This includes installing reinforced concrete supports and a strong protective slab above the pipes. The mains are also being surrounded with sand to help keep them stable and protect the underground infrastructure. In February, a new gantry sign was installed above the motorway during overnight works to help prepare the junction for future traffic management once the upgraded layout opens.
The project is part of a major scheme led by Hampshire County Council[1] to turn M27 Junction 10 into a fully working motorway interchange. At the moment, the junction only allows limited access to and from the motorway. The upgrade will add new slip roads, a motorway underpass - which was put in place in December 2025 - and extra roundabouts so drivers can join and leave the motorway in all directions.
The improvements are linked to Welborne Garden Village development near Wickham, which will eventually include up to 6,000 homes, as well as schools, jobs and community facilities.
