Flights cancelled across the UK as travellers face travel chaos amongst Middle East crisis

The ongoing war between the United States, Israel and Iran has caused travel chaos as Major airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Virgin Atlantic, have suspended flights to and from the Middle East. On 28 February 2026, Israel and the United States began a series of strikes against Iran targeting the country's leadership, security forces and nuclear programme and missile sites. Iran has responded with missile strikes targeting US bases across the Middle East.

In response to the escalating situation, airlines have cancelled all flights to several countries in the region. The ongoing conflict has also had a significant knock-on effect on flights, as airspace closures in the Middle East have led to cancellations, rerouting, and delays. According to Flightradar24, around 21,300 flights have been cancelled since the strikes started.
