M6 live updates as ‘serious crash’ shuts motorway

Part of the M6 has been closed this evening (March 3) following a 'serious crash'. The northbound carriageway is currently closed between junction 16 at Crewe and junction 17 at Sandbach. According to National Highways, emergency services were called just before 7.45pm this evening, Tuesday, March 3.

Cheshire emergency services are in attendance, along with National Highways Traffic Officers who are in attendance assisting with traffic management. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports: "M6 Northbound closed due to accident from J16 A500 (Stoke-On-Trent / Crewe) to J17 A534 Old Mill Road (Sandbach / Crewe)." Live traffic cameras show congestion is building between junctions 15 and 16 as a result of the incident.
