Lorry overturns near M6 in Wednesbury as paramedics rush to scene

Motorists are facing delays near J9 of the M6

Drivers were facing huge delays in Wednesbury this afternoon after a lorry overturned near the M6.

The lorry overturned[1] near A4148 Wallows Lane and Junction 9 of the major motorway at around 2.38pm today, March 6.

The A461 Wood Green Road was closed due to the incident[2].

A man was checked over by paramedics before being discharged at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a lorry that had overturned at the junction of the A461 and M6 at 2.38pm, one ambulance attended the scene.

"We assessed one patient, a man, who was able to be discharged at the scene."

Traffic was able to leave the motorway at J9 in both directions, but motorists were forced to leave the roundabout at the first exit.

A traffic update from Inrix read: "A461 Wood Green Road southbound closed.

"Queueing traffic due to overturned lorry between A4148 Wallows Lane and M6 J9.

"A461 Wood Green Road is also closed northbound on approach to the roundabout.

"Traffic is still able to leave the M6 at J9 in both directions but must leave the roundabout at the first exit.

"Diversion for bus routes 11 and 11A."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Roads added: "M6 J9 roundabout A461, Wednesbury.

Overturned lorry partially blocking roundabout.

"Delays on approaches (Wood Green Road, Bescot Road, Broadway).

Allow additional time or use other routes."
