Two lanes are closed on the M62 motorway tonight due to flooding. The lanes are shut to traffic on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 11, for Birchwood in Warrington[1], and Junction 12, for the M60.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Two lanes are closed[2] on the M62 eastbound between J11 Birchwood and J12 M60 due to flooding in the carriageway following heavy rain[3]. Please take care on approach."

The Manchester Evening News[4] reported that the lane closures were first reported at around 9.30pm.

Traffic monitor INRIX said: "Two lanes blocked due to flooding on M62 Eastbound from J11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood) to J12 M60 J12 (Eccles Interchange)."

The forecast states: "Remaining cloudy this evening as rain clears northwards. Some clearer spells emerge from the south overnight, though cloud lingers over hills in the east. Winds becoming light overnight.

Largely frost-free.
