M62 LIVE: Motorway traffic held after multi-car crash as long queues build

Traffic has come to a halt on the M62 this evening as emergency crews rush to the scene of a serious multi-vehicle crash. The crash is reported to have taken place on the eastbound carriageway from J21 for the A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way in Milnrow, to J22 for the A672 at Rishworth Moor. Emergency services at the scene currently include police officers and medics from the North West Ambulance Service.

Traffic is continuing to build, according to images from motorway traffic cameras.

Crash now cleared but congestion remains

The 'severe' road traffic collision on the M62 eastbound at junction J22 hsa now been cleared, National Highways has said. However while the carriageway is open and traffic is moving again in both directions, there are still delays of 10 minutes against expected traffic, the agency warned drivers.

Traffic is being held on a stretch of the M62 nearly three miles long between junction 21 and junction 22. The affected section of road is to the east of Rochdale on the main route between Manchester and Leeds.

The latest update from live traffic service Inrix reads: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M62 Eastbound from J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow) to J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor)."

National Highways warns of 40 min delays

Drivers have been warned to expect long delays following the crash this evening, involving multiple vehicles.

Traffic is currently stopped on the #M62[1] eastbound within J22 near #Denshaw[2] #WestYorkshire[3] due to a multi vehicle collision.
