M6 live updates as all traffic stopped after lorry goes up in flames

All traffic has been brought to a standstill on the southbound M6 this afternoon following a vehicle fire. The incident occurred between junction 19 for Knutsford and junction 18 for Middlewich and Holmes Chapel. Motorists are currently being held while emergency services respond.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports: "M6 Southbound blocked, severe delays due to lorry fire from J19 A556 (Knutsford) to J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich/Holmes Chapel)." Live motorway cameras show long queues forming, with smoke visible as firefighters tackle the blaze. Drivers are being warned to expect significant delays in the area.
