Letter about giant wind turbine plan near Winchester
We are told that this EV charging hub is amongst the best in the country and it should be a valuable option to the increasing number of electric vehicle users, but as I pass the EV hub regularly, it does appear to be underused in respect of the available charging points. I can understand the need for the hub to draw attention to its presence and one might assume that, like other trunk road services and motorway facilities, it should be indicated with official signage alongside the nearby roads. I have been surprised that this doesn't seem to have been the case so far, with the hub only being advertised privately in fields along the A34, but with almost no other signage.
The unit is placed on a quiet part of the A272 leading north from Three Maids Hill and the only official road signs indicating its presence are very modest in size at the Three Maids Hill roundabout and just beyond the site itself. No driver on the M3, the A34, and the A30 would ever know it is there without foreknowledge. Even with the proposed dummy wind turbine, I can't believe drivers would be attracted to the hub, as they would simply believe it to be the real article at an idle moment.
In the same way that road junctions and motorway services are indicated to drivers, I suggest this hub facility should be properly signed both ways on the A34, the Andover Road and the A272 leading south from the A30 to Three Maids Hill and also, maybe, the M3. We can then do away with this preposterous nonsense in the planning proposal. Dave Alderson,
