A car crashed into the central reservation of a Merseyside motorway this afternoon, leading to lance closures and queuing traffic. The incident, which occurred on the M53, was reported at 4.47pm on Sunday, February 8.

Police arrived to find the car had suffered a blown tyre, leading to it crashing into the central reservation of the motorway while travelling northbound between junction four at Brimstage Road, Bebington [1], and junction three at Woodchurch Road, Woodchurch [2].

Debris was scattered onto the southbound carriageway of the M53 [3], although the force incident manager for Merseyside Police [4] said this has now been cleared.

At the time of writing, two lanes of the northbound carriageway between junctions four and three remain closed while police clear up the debris from the crash.

No one suffered injuries during the incident. It is understood the lanes will reopen shortly.

Traffic monitor Inrix said: "Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M53 Northbound from J4 A5137 Brimstage Road (Bebington) to J3 A552 Woodchurch Road (Woodchurch)."
