There are a series of road closures across Wales today, Saturday, January 24, with key routes shut due to roadworks, bridge maintenance, and emergency works. Motorists are advised to plan journeys carefully, allow extra time, and check local diversion routes, as several major and minor roads remain completely impassable. Here is everything you need to know:
- The B4368 at Abermule in Powys is closed in both directions while tree cutting and clearance work takes place.
Crews are removing fallen trees between the Llandyssil turn-off and the Sarn turn-off towards Llanmerewig, with the road expected to remain shut until January 30.
- B4582 in Nevern, Pembrokeshire is closed in both directions closed due to landslip from the A487 to the Moylgrove turn off.
- M4 Westbound at J41 Pentyla/Baglan to J43 Llandarcy closed for overnight roadworks. Diversions in place all weekend between 8pm and 6am.
- In Swansea, the B4433 Mumbles Road is closed overnight in both directions between Oystermouth Square and Dunns Lane. The closure is in place nightly from 6pm until 6am, and will continue through to the morning of January 30 as roadworks progress.
- The B4520 at Castle Maddoc in Powys is fully closed in both directions between Castle Maddoc and Lower Chapel.
Roadworks are taking place during daytime hours, from 9.30am until 3pm, and the closure is scheduled to remain in place until February 17, 2026.
- A long-term closure remains in force on the B4393 at Alltforgan in Powys, where the road is shut between Ffridd Wydd-afon and Llanwddyn. Drivers are advised to follow signed diversions, with reopening not expected until April 3, 2026.
- Cefn Road in Bonymaen, Swansea, is closed in both directions between Mansel Road and Cefn Hengoed Road. Roadworks are ongoing.
- St Helen's Crescent in Swansea is also closed in both directions between St Helen's Avenue and King Edward's Road.
The road is due to re-open on January 25.
- Penlan Crescent in the Uplands area of Swansea is shut in both directions between Glanmor Road and Cwmdonkin Drive. Roadworks are ongoing, with the closure running from January 22 until January 27.
- Cwm Lane in Rogerstone, Newport, is closed in both directions for water main works between Groes Road and Brunel Avenue. The road is not expected to re-open until March 22.
- Northampton Lane in Swansea's Maritime Quarter, a one-way street, remains closed between Page Street and Christina Street.
This is a long-term closure, with restrictions in place until April 2, 2027.
- Heol-y-Gors in Cwmbwrla, Swansea, is closed in both directions as part of long-term works between Carmarthen Road and Meadow Street. The closure is expected to continue until March 31, 2027.
- In Rhondda Cynon Taf, Packer's Road in Porth is closed in both directions between Aldergrove Road and Aber-Rhondda Road, while Aldergrove Road itself is also shut between Packer's Road and Aldergrove Court. Both closures are expected to remain in place until March 31, 2026.
- Factory Pool Lane in Mold, Flintshire, is closed in both directions between the A541 and Gwernaffield Road.
This is a long-term roadworks closure, with re-opening not expected until April 1, 2027.
- Nant Morlais in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, is closed in both directions between Gwladys Street and The Hafod. The closure is scheduled to remain in place until September 16, 2027.
- Llanerch Park in Trefnant, Denbighshire, is closed between Llys Llannerch and Cae Pedr in Tremeirchion for roadworks. The road is due to re-open on April 22, 2026.
- Promenade Terrace in Mumbles, Swansea, is closed in both directions between Mumbles Road and Devon Place.
This long-term closure is expected to continue until December 22, 2026.
- The Old Wye Bridge in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, remains closed in both directions between St Ann Street and Elmdale in Tutshill following bridge inspections. The closure has been in place since October and is not expected to lift until October 6, 2026.
- Crescent Road in Caerphilly is subject to a full closure, with all traffic being temporarily held at Park Lane because of roadworks. Disruption is expected to continue until March 6, 2026.
- Pentre Fron Road in Coedpoeth, Wrexham, is closed in both directions at Talwrn Road for bridge maintenance work.
The main carriageway will remain shut until July 24, 2026.
- School Lane in Llanarmon-yn-Ial, Denbighshire, is closed in both directions to traffic between the B5430 and Cae'r Odyn in Eryrys. The closure remains in place until December 31, 2026.
