M4 traffic chaos as incident causes huge tailback
There was queuing traffic along the M4 in Newport on Thursday evening as one lane closed due to a broken down heavy goods vehicle. A lane closure was put in place on the M4 junction 24 eastbound to the dedicated off slip towards the A449, causing traffic delays. From junction 24 Coldra to junction 26 of the motorway there was queuing traffic.
Gwent Police asked drivers to avoid the area and find alternative routes. A spokesperson for the force said: "We received a report of a broken down heavy goods vehicle on the A449 slip road from the M4 at around 2.25pm on Thursday 15 January. Officers are in attendance to assist with traffic management and the lane closure."
Elsewhere along the M4, there was slow traffic due to emergency repairs on the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge westbound from junction 22 M49 to junction 23 M48.
One lane was closed to allow work to be carried out.
