Alan Whittington: IoTA Mourns Sudden Passing of President

The Institute of Transport Administration (IoTA) is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of its President, Alan J Whittington FInsTA, 76, who died soon after a fall on 14 December. Paying tribute, IoTA Chairman Greg Powell says: "Alan was a dedicated leader and passionate advocate for the transport sector. His vision, expertise and commitment shaped our institute and inspired countless professionals throughout his career."

A long-standing IoTA member, for more than 20 years he was Chairman of its Education and Membership Committee. He became President in 2016 (following Wing Commander Peter Green's decision to retire after seven years in post) having previously served as Deputy President for nine years.  Crucially, Alan spearheaded the major reform and reinvigoration of IoTA, bringing in new talent and operating methods, as the organisation also embraced delivery of Drivers' CPC courses through a consortium of its member training providers.

With a lifetime's background in road transport as a manager at a variety of companies, both passenger and haulage, he was the Senior Partner at Professional Transport Services (PTS), the company he founded in 1991 to help, advise and train staff for excellence within the road transport industry. Continues Greg Powell: "His contributions to transport administration will have a lasting impact on our industry. "Our thoughts are with Alan's family and friends during this difficult time, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him."

A date for the funeral - to be held in West Norfolk, at which all will be very welcome - has yet to be set, please contact [email protected] to be notified and for details. An online book of remembrance is here https://rememberancebook.net/book/alan-whittington/
