Plans for 450 homes in Hadzor near M5 due to be handed in
Cllr Seb James repeated his call for developers to get their 'hands off Hadzor' as he urged them to rethink plans to apply for permission to build the homes on 21 hectares of land off Hanbury Road.
The letter states the homes could be built within two to three years, depending on whether or how soon the scheme is given the green light. The M5 motorway runs north to south along the proposed site's western boundary.
Cllr James, a county councillor for Bowbrook and deputy party chair of Worcester Conservatives, said developers had pressed on 'despite strong opposition from residents' and argued that the necessary infrastructure was not in place to support the project. Residents packed out a public meeting, voicing their opposition to the scheme with feelings so strong that many residents had to stand. On Wednesday, December 10, Cllr James was informed that some residents had received correspondence from the developer stating they were ready to submit their application.
Cllr James said: "This news comes as a shock to many, given the clear message delivered at a residents' meeting earlier this summer: Hands off our green space and infrastructure first.
The proposed site is a cherished green space, and its loss would fundamentally change the character of our community. Recommended reading: "As the county councillor, I have written to the Chief Executive to express my deep concerns.
Disappointingly, the assurance that local members would be kept informed has not been upheld. Transparency and communication are vital in matters that affect our communities so profoundly. "I remain committed to protecting our green spaces and ensuring that infrastructure comes before development.
This is not just about housing numbers -- it's about safeguarding the quality of life for current and future residents. The fight to preserve Hadzor is far from over. Developers may press on, but so will we."
