M62 crash today leaves motorway closed in Yorkshire as traffic diversion put in place

The eastbound carriageway is shut near Hull and police are at the scene

The M62 motorway is closed in Yorkshire following a crash tonight (Friday, December 12). The eastbound carriageway is shut to traffic between Junction 37 and Junction 38 near Hull.

The closure was first reported shortly after 8pm.

Police are at the scene and a diversion route is now in place.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M62[1] in East Riding of Yorkshire is closed eastbound between J37 (Howden) and J38 (A63 / Hull) following a collision. Humberside Police are in attendance along with National Highways Traffic Officers who are assisting with traffic management.

"Traffic caught within the closure is in the process of being released passed the scene in lane 1. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.

Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: "Please be aware the M62 is closed in the eastbound direction from Howden to North Cave whilst Police deal with an ongoing incident . Please avoid the area at this time."

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "M62 Eastbound blocked due to accident from J37 A614 (Howden) to J38 A63 J38 (North Cave)."

M62 diversion route tonight:

National Highways has said the following diversion route is in place tonight. Motorists are being urged to follow the Hollow Square diversion route on road signs.

Driving East, exit the M62 motorway using J37 offslip road and proceed to the end of the slip road.

At the junction, turn left onto A63 and proceed along this road for approx 500m to the roundabout with the A614.

At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto A614 and proceed along this road for approx 12 miles to the roundabout with the A1079.

At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A1079 and proceed along this road for approx 2 miles to the roundabout with the A1034.

At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A1034 and proceed along this road for approx 8 miles to the junction with the A63 (South Cave Junction).

At the junction, take the left turn onto the slip road to join A63 East.
